Tuesday Mumbles: Nostalgia

Written by TheChoujinVirus

Note: The following is based on my own opinions. So do not take it personal if you do take it.

Heyo, It’s ya boi and I’m that many would call a Millennial who grew up in the 90s. So yeah…I’m an old man to today’s generation.

How old am I to this generation? Well, old enough to remember that we used to have Blockbusters and Pay phones.

So that makes me old enough to be an old man. “When I was your age, we had to walk fifteen miles to a local Blockbuster to rent movies and stuff. No Netflix or any streaming service. You wanted to watch a movie? You had to walk and get it! You wanted to call someone? You better have a dollar to pay the toll fee or call collect”

Look at YouTube videos of kids reacting to seeing a VHS cassette, a push dial phone or even old school cellphones and pagers. Those kids give the same reaction that someone made like they discovered an ancient artifact or question how people work these things. Kinda funny when the youth sees how inconvenient. This gets me to the next thing…

I don’t know why folks would want to go back to that era. We get that stuff being pushed in old shows that show the world of the 80s and 90s. I’d rather keep the more convenient shit than the annoying crap of nostalgia. They think seeing the fashion and the fun stuff is something to relive because it’s awesome or great. Take it from a guy who grew up in the 90s, they would go mad the second they find out that cellphones are huge, or slow internet. They see the stuff because they never grew up with it, but only want to live in that era because it looked awesome to them. I like the Middle Ages or the wild west because of media but wanting to live in that era? Noooo..I’m not wanting to learn that life the hard way.

In ya boy’s opinion, i’d rather be in the now than in the past.

Tuesday Mumbles: Corporate Buyouts

Written by TheChoujinVirus

Note: The following is based on my own opinions. Therefore do not take anything personal

Happy Tuesday, everyone. It’s ya boy Choujin here.

Today, I heard the news that Microsoft is planning to purchase Blizzard Entertainment. Good for them, as I like to ensure Warcraft survives. Though I’ve seen some people arguing about how this is one step closer to a monopoly. Though this gets me thinking about what folks seem to be clueless about and gets me upset on: Corporate Buyouts.

I’ve seen how some companies have made acquisitions of various companies to add to their own fold. None can be the example of Disney and their acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel, LucasArts, and the Jim Henson company. These are great examples of buyouts that rage over the whole ordeal and which folks do become upset. Though it is not every situation, it’s all Disney or some money-grubbing conspiracy.

One of the factors is that some IPs and items are saved through said buyouts. When Activision bought out Blizzard, the prior company Viveldi was going into a financial crisis that would have resulted in Blizzard’s collapse and a significant loss of some good IPs. The same could also explain why Jim Henson sold his work to Disney and the same for Lucas. Money can be a real pain when you want your media empire to continue. In Lucas’s case, it was due to him wanting to just quit due to backlash from the issues. Without buyouts, stuff like this would die.

On the other hand, I understand the fears of too many buyouts and how it can lead to control of IPs that many can feel like monopolies or other things. For starters, some buyouts can be viewed as scary, like Sony’s buyout of Funimation and Crunchyroll. This gives Sony too much control of the said market when they already have their eggs in another basket. Then again, that move did get them investigated for antitrust violations. Not only that, but as repeated, Sony already has some deals with distribution (that and Funimation nor Crunchyroll were in any evil thing.)

However, with buyouts and such, folks can be jumpy without knowing the reasons behind it. This also includes ya boy here too. I’m no financial expert, but In my defense, the Microsoft buyout of Blizzard is something I wouldn’t mind seeing (especially with the positive part of one of the Presidents being purged from Activision-Blizzard). Maybe Microsoft could make WoW better like they did with Fallout 76

Tuesday Mumbles: Cooking

written by TheChoujinVirus

Note: the following is based on my own opinions, so don’t take it too personally.

Hey everyone, it’s ya boy Choujin here…

Ever had a day where you simply didn’t know what to cook? Or that dish you want that is tasty but serves more than one or two people? That’s me to a T right there.

One such issue I’ve always found is that finding a tasty recipe requires multiple pots to prepare a meal to cook. Not against it, but more pots mean more to clean up. Nothing’s more frustrating than finding a good recipe but needing multiple pots just to make one plate. That’s one way of turning me off of cooking: making messes and having to clean multiple pots and pans for one person.

Though many recipes are tempting to cook but require some stuff that you cannot pick up at a local market due to the requirement. I mean, some of the stuff sounds good, but I’m not going to look through specific stores for that particular food item or spices. In fact, I’m the kind of person who prefers to take his grandmother’s tip of lifehacking some recipes that work. Cooking should be excellent, but you need some tricks to not make it a chore. After all, ya boy is cooking for a meal, not for a spot in Iron Chef.

Lastly, the portion sizes, as I mentioned, some of the food sounds good, but many recipes require you to serve for more than one person. Now I’m not against leftovers, but I’m sure you know that one will get bored with it. Nobody likes it when you get bored with food, let alone running out of space if you decide to cook something for eight people. If you do, get used to having the same dish for lunch and dinner for a while. It also doesn’t help when you’re limited to superficial stuff. I remember only eating eggs and peanut butter sandwiches when I had days where I didn’t want to cook due to boredom or not being hungry. It sucks but nothing I can do I’m not that hungry.

Sure cooking isn’t easy, but it’s better than living off of ramen or TV dinners. Which is another thing that miffs me. The most accessible options are just microwaveable food, soups, or ramen, and not really filling, let alone healthy to thrive on. Heck, you don’t see people living off of peanut butter sandwiches for their lives.
Maybe irrelevant, but if I had a choice between a peanut butter sandwich or cooking some very extreme meal, I’d go for the sandwich but not for the entire thing. Heck, sometimes you’d just have days where you don’t want to cook.

I don’t mind cooking, but it’s not as easy as recipes put them as or anything. Sometimes, I wish you’d have more accessible recipes that are one-pot meals that serve one or two people but don’t require rare things. Either way, it’s better than some out there who can’t cook at all.

Tuesday Mumbles: The Omicron Strain

Written By TheChoujinVirus

Note: The following is based on my own opinion

Good Evening Everyone, It’s ya boy choujin here.

Welp, we got a new strain of Covid…this time Omicron.

For those unaware, a few days ago, news outlets on this new strain coming out of South Africa. Already folks are calling out the variant as a new hoax due to the sudden announcement while others are worried that we may never be able to rid ourselves with Covid and that we’ll have the nightmare like with the current Delta strain that wracks through it.

Though I have a feeling that we are a bit more prepared this time to avoid any problems. We’re not going to have a repeat of 2020 with purple tier where everything is shut down and everything paused. I should know cuz I had to wait until this year to finish up my NCCT exams. However, what i’m seeing is that people are being cautious when it comes to Covid and that we can enjoy our lives without living in fear as long as we are cautious.

My worry is that we still have that particular camp that is still willing to take weird rituals, hoax medicines and alternative news that will, like now, make the virus worse. They only want to go back to normal, but without any safety nets and have us back to 2020’s purple tier mess. Though this time, they’d take the advice of others and just pretend it never exists. Seriously, folks need to know that we’re not out of the woods yet.

From ya boy’s perspective, we need to not worry about Omicron yet..but neither should we take it lightly. Keep up practicing safe distancing, get your booster and make sure you pay attention and not believe fake news on garbage. Also, make sure you do what is required and not buy a fake vaccine card.

It’s the only true way that we can make Covid managable and maybe something that’s not as dangerous.

Tuesday Mumbles: NFTs and Crypto

Written By TheChoujinVirus

Note: The following is based on my own opinion. So do not take them personally should you do

Happy Tuesday everyone, it’s ya boy Choujin here.

Ya boy is familiar with these things of cryptos and NFTs.

What are these you’re talking about? To summarize it, and for those who don’t know (and haven’t watched the videos).

NFTs or “Non-fungible token” is more tied to things like digital art, audio, or photos. While Cryptos are basically cryptocurrency used online like BitCoin. Essentially, in ya boy’s opinion, fake money and value with fake worth. First off, NFTs are more or less fancy templates that folks can use and devalue the originality. Meaning that drawing of a monkey with a hat is probably replicated and sold to other people for the same value. Worse yet is that many can be imitated. This is like buying a fake Rolex for the price of a real one without knowing that you bought a fake. That’s the issue with NFTs. You think you’re getting value from something that can be replicated. At least if let say someone buys a piece of art, one can know if its real or a replica. NFTs there’s no safety net.

For Cryptocurrencies, I’m not a fan of the basis of digital premium money that may not have any security should it dissipate or get hacked. That and the market’s being filled by various people wanting to cash onto the crypto market. In fact, some people have called out a possible crash with this economy. To me, I’d rather take my chances with future investments and bank investments over crypto that can fall apart.

To me, the question is this: Why do people invest in fake materials that can’t have a safe value. I mean, sure..some of us hold onto old things of value like Beanie Babies, Pokemon Cards, action figures and various other things. However, we know they’ll retain in value. NFTs…how do we know that badly drawn monkey someone bought won’t be replicated and thus lose their uniqueness? How do we know that Cryptos will retain their value and not end up with the value of a Blockbuster’s gift card?

Don’t know..but ya boy would rather not get themselves in trouble with stuff that won’t become the same worth as a rotten banana peel.

What’s your take on NFTs and Cryptos? Comment on this and give ya boy some feedback

Tuesday Mumbles: Comedy (Punching Down)

Written by TheChoujinVirus

Note: the following is based on my own opinions of the matter, do not take it personally.

Happy Tuesday everyone, it’s ya boy Choujin here.

I’ve been seeing and reading a ton of things about comedy. Yes, ya boy likes comedy and am a fan of some of the older comedians like Robin Williams and George Carlin. A lot of it I do enjoy, but some comedians ya boy isn’t fond of. Those are the ones who many views as punch-down comedians. To give a curiosity of what punch-down comedy, we usually may have to take a peek here with the late George Carlin’s statement:

To summarize, Punching Down usually targets those that are disenfranchised (such as PoC, Minorities, mostly those not in power or have any form of societal survival.)

Why is this a problem you ask? Well, I remembered that comedy used to be something of two creeds: Nobody got hurt and nobody cries. In short, usually, you could do something funny but not at the expense of mocking people for things that are issues. For example, it’s okay to make fun of some socio-economic issue or problem but not the people itself. Some people think that because South Park did it means it’s somehow okay to copy them (and usually when they try the shock jock route, it makes their idea worse.)
As for me, one such big stink was the Dave Chapelle situation on Netflix. Now, in my honest opinion, I wasn’t a fan of Chapelle. In fact, I only knew of him because of my high school days it was mostly just quoting “I’m Rick James, bitch” and other Chapelle stuff. It was kinda the internet meme of the days. Though comedy changes and things do, but the idea still remains:

Don’t hurt people and don’t make people cry.

Though don’t think that ya boy can’t say that you can’t do thing’s “offensive”. What ya boy’s trying to mention is one can do comedy and bash someone or something that doesn’t resort to offensive tropes. For example, you can let’s say bash Katlyn Jenner and make fun of them. Just make sure the punchline isn’t something that bashes their trans status in a negative light. Also just because it was funny ten or fifty years ago doesn’t mean it’ll remain funny now? Don’t get me started on folks using race and such

Why you ask? Simply put, Times change

As for comedy and the rules I go by and listen to? Because I want to be entertained by stuff that makes me (and others) laugh. Folks have other tastes but so long as they’re respectable, i’m fine by that.

why fine by that?

well then…

Tuesday Mumbles: Bad Critiques

Written by TheChoujinVirus

Note: The following is based on my own opinion and experiences. Do not take them personally if you feel offended

Happy Tuesday everyone, it’s ya boy Choujin here.

Today’s been an interesting day and today I’ve noticed something when I was reading my notes from my professor today about my short story Ryulong: Tale of a Hero. He gave a detailed review of both the positive and negative about my story. One thing ya boy doesn’t mind is criticism of his writing. After all, it’s the only thing that can help me improve as a writer. However, there are times when some folks give some not so good reviews and some that become pure hot garbage.

One problem with some bad reviews is that you get some people who love to trash on something like a story and find nothing of praise of a media. Now I get it, some stories suck and sometimes you might not like a genre. However, there are some parts of a story that can be enjoyable and if given a chance, does have some potential for some positive feedback. Why? Well, even a crappy story does have some benefits if you look for it. When I was writing reviews for some of the stories of my peers in class, I had to find some positive parts of their story. Despite the heavy flaws in some of them, they had good parts and some potential.

The second one that I hate is when people praise you about your work and yet they can’t find a single flaw in their work. I hate this kind of bad review as it means you couldn’t find anything wrong with a story and the false impression that one’s said story is somehow perfect. From my own experience of writing stories, there’s NO such thing as writing a perfect story! I mean, things like sentence structure, lack of interest of the character development, or even just how characters speak. There’s always a flaw in even masterpieces of other stories beyond just fan base stuff.

Shitting on a story without reason or praising it without criticism; both of those are ya boy’s personal beef when it comes to bad writing critiques. People who write have a thick skin and don’t worry about being criticized, but make sure you give some clarity about why it was bad okay?
It’s not like we’re going to throw a fit

Tuesday Mumbles: Kitten Raising

Note: the following is based on my opinion so do not take any offense to it if you feel upset.

Happy Tuesday everyone, it’s ya boy Choujin here.

two months ago, ya boy helped his grandmother rescue a kitten named Arya from an old air fryer duct that she got herself into. It reminds me of one thing about kittens: some can be a real handful.

Folks take kitten raising real lightly and sometimes forget how much they can be a handful.

How much of a handful can they be? Well… let’s me explain about how when I took care of Arya for one week. Little bugger decided to run about, knock stuff over and even do some damage by chewing on unplugged wires. Oh and she digs deep in her litterbox, throwing litter everywhere like she wants to dig to China just to use their toilets. Messy girl that’s for sure, but doesn’t top her energy. I’ve seen her buzz about like a firecracker.

Kittens are basically little fur babies that rush around and can get themselves in trouble if you take them granted. Oh and if you’re kitten’s a climber, make sure you don’t have lamps or stuff that is fragile or can start a fire.

Also, one thing that I may have to put up until the SPCA is ready for us: getting her spayed. Kittens like Arya can go into heat as early as four months old (still a baby). Thus you REALLY need to keep an eye on them and ensure they don’t decide to vamanos outside and get pregnant.

Sometimes I wonder if there’s some sureway of kitten care that makes it easy

Tuesday Mumbles: Horse Medicine

Written by TheChoujinVirus

Note: The following is based on my own opinions and experiences. Do not take this seriously or take any offense to it.

Hey everyone, it’s ya boy Choujin here.

Now I’ve seen some real stupid shit throughout my life whether it be scenes from Jackass where Steve-O snorted Wasabi up his nose to more stupid things like kids doing the “OutletChallenge” or “Fire Challenge”.

But this..this gets ya boy’s blood boiling big time. It’s related to Covid-19 and folks still denying the effectiveness of the vaccine. But get this stupidity! Their new “Cure to Covid” is Ivermectin.

For those unaware, Ivermectin is a medicine used basically as a dewormer for livestock. Anti-vaxxers are pushing this as the cure for Covid, even forming groups on Facebook to push this. Though ironically, they’re nearly crapping out their intestinal lining and even losing vision in their eyes. Not something good if I do say and they make claims that the vaccine will kill people? Excuse me..but I’ve taken both of those shots and the worst I got from it was an icky feeling and maybe a pustule on my finger (but that was unrelated to the virus and due to having a splinter there prior to my shot). Also, no rightful doctor would ever prescribe dewormers for a repertory virus.

So for those who are hesitant on the shot, I would suggest that you get the vaccine. Unvaccination makes it very difficult for us to reopen and return back to normal. Worst off, it allows more variants like the Delta variant to exist and even evolve further. Also places like PublicHealth and Mayo Clinic will provide you information that debunks plenty of those issues.

The longer we are stuck in this, the harder it is to fight the variant and eliminate Covid. It’s not something ya boy wants to live for the rest of his life. In fact, to take the advice of the CDC from a Twitter post:

And those who are adamant on taking horse meds to cure covid? well…

Seriously, if you’re willing to deal with crapped briefs, losing your vision and heavy shakes because you’re afraid that your eggs or sperm are going to be augmented by some vaccine, then you really are a fool who will believe anything that’s not science.

By the way..I have THE Holy Grail I can sell you guys if you’re interested…

But with that, that’s my two cents on this whole ordeal

Tuesday Mumbles: Identity Theft

Written by TheChoujinVirus

Note: The following is based on my own opinion and is not meant to be a reflection of actual experience.

Happy Tuesday everyone, it’s Ya boy Choujin here.

A week ago, ya boy had found his card wasn’t working. Upon doing a check with the bank, I found out that my card got compromised. Appaarently, two days ago, someone from Turlock tried to use my card to buy 130 bucks worth of Pizza (and it was Pizza Guys pizza. Not knocking on those that love them. Though I don’t know if that would be worth 130 bucks of pizza). However, it was annoying was that it meant I didn’t have any way of buying physical stuff! (I still have Paypal but you can’t do shopping via it..yet.)

Bet you’re wondering how that whole thing started? Well..I can’t put my finger but my issue was due to a compromised payment system. Those would be those credit readers you see in grocery stores and such. Where it happened? who knows? May have been at the pet store or in Old Sacramento. Can’t point fingers as it can happen to anybody. It’s annoying when you go shopping and you don’t know until you try to buy something and find your card invalid. However, lucky for me, nothing was lost just was locked out.

However, i’ve heard some folks aren’t that lucky and find themselves in the hole, and some are used for far worse stuff. Like losing your savings as some guy from India hacked your card and bought Fortnite Vbucks to sell to people. Lucky for me, I am a bit cautious.

Though some would say I should invest in some stuff like SecureLock or whatever group that’ll protect you from this. When in short, even that won’t be a safe thing.

Though I would have to say, what more annoys me is that someone would go that way to steal your card just for crappy pizza (again, not ragging on Pizza Guys or those who like them.) Just scratching my head on this crap.

Either way, nothing else of any problem. With that over, I hope it doesn’t happen again or to anyone else. Nobody should have to deal with that mess (not even my worse enemies.)
